SEFARI is delighted to be supporting the launch of the Center for the Study of the Force Majeure’s Vision for Scotland and the Dee valley in the form of a guiding narrative film exploring the implications of climate change and provoking thought and action for how we might adapt to the challenges as a diverse group of communities of interest.
Despite strong evidence from catchment science and from our deep experience in river management it is clear we must do more to involve stakeholders in taking adaptive action to the long-term challenges of climate change. Deploying effective means of communication is essential and we need to learn from experts from other fields.
A consortium of partners invited internationally acclaimed artist Newton Harrison to visit Aberdeenshire to open a conversation leading to action involving local agencies and communities in exploring the impacts of climate change on our local environment, centering initially on the catchments of the Dee and Don rivers.
Newton Harrison previously gave a presentation at the Barn on 26th August 2017.
An arts project, which will run for 3-5 years, will be launched at Woodend Barn at which Newton Harrison will present his vision for Scotland through a short video followed by an open discussion. The event will take the form of a webinar through a satellite link with the Center for the Study of the Force Majeure in California.

This project involves a consortium of partners including the Center for the Study of the Force Majeure, University of California Santa Cruz, the James Hutton Institute, The Dee Catchment Partnership and is supported by SEFARI.
